Hi! What is your name, and tell us a little about yourself.

I’m Asha, and I’m a student at the University of Edinburgh in social anthropology and politics.

What made you interested in being a volunteer Welcomer at Greyfriars?

I was interested in volunteer opportunities and found the position listed online. I was especially keen on working with members of the public from all over the world.

What is your favourite space in the Kirk?

The museum, as it contains lots of detailed information about the rich history of Greyfriars—you really get to learn a lot!

What is your favourite thing about volunteering at Greyfriars?

I definitely enjoy interacting with the different volunteer Welcomers and staff, who are very helpful, friendly and welcoming. They really made me feel at ease as a volunteer here.

I also love meeting and chatting with all of the visitors from their many different backgrounds—it’s fun to learn about their hometowns and countries as they learn about the Kirk from us.

What would you say to someone that is interested in volunteering at the Kirk as a Welcomer?

Definitely give it a go, it’s an amazing opportunity and one I’m sure you’ll enjoy.
